Where We Work
Our History |
Jessica's first trip to the Dominican Republic was in 2005 when she worked at an orphanage in La Romana. During college she had an opportunity to start a Service-Learning program that brought students down to the border area of Elias Pina to work alongside Foundation Mariana San Isidro Labrador (FUMSIL). She organized and oversaw these service programs as a student leader until she graduated in 2010.
Later that same year Jessica and Adam met. They fell in love and mutually discerned the decision to organize Building Bridges of Hope (BBOH), an American nonprofit that strives to lift up the people of the Dominican Republic through volunteer programs, fundraising and awareness. Adam and Jessica are the directors of BBOH. They report to a Board of Directors, comprised of professionals throughout the midwest. The Board of Directors is responsible for guiding the mission by providing legal, financial and prayerful oversight. For the last six years Adam and Jessica have been traveling constantly, investing their time into furthering the mission of mobile medical clinics, schools and an elderly center. The Carliles do not receive compensation for the time they invest in ministry – they receive no salary or stipend. As a traditional missionary family they must raise their own support to live a life of service. As the projects have grown and prospered, Adam and Jessica feel the Lord’s call to live full time in the Dominican Republic. This big leap of faith will allow for more oversight of the mission and the ability to start new projects. Being in one place full time also provides the stability that a young family requires. The goal of this website is to raise awareness of the ministry partners and monthly support needed for the Carliles to return to the Dominican Republic. Every sponsorship, no matter the amount, is greatly appreciated. It is only with the support of the faithful that the mission will be able to continue. |
